Call to put multi-agency inspections on hold

Council care bosses have called for plans to carry out multi-agency inspections of children's services to be put on hold. The Care Quality Commission (CQC), in partnership with Ofsted, HMI Constabulary, HMI Probation and HMI Prisons recently held a consultation on the plans to start no notice, integrated inspections of arrangements for the protection and care of children from April 2015 onwards. But in its response to the consultation, the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS) said the plans should be put on hold pending further discussions with local authorities, particularly in the light of the recently published Jay Report on child sexual exploitation in Rotherham. The ADCS also raised concerns about inconsistent judgements, because of the different grading and narrative processes used by the various agencies involved.
