It's no secret that reforms to integrate health and social care services are set to transform organisational structures within local authorities - and this will undoubtedly have a significant impact on recruitment into both the health and social care sectors. I think it's fair to say that, as professional disciplines, health and social care don't always see eye to eye, and this is likely to raise important questions about how the 'new-look', amalgamated services will operate - and which side of the fence the next generation of leaders will come from. In my experience, the skills and expertise considered 'desirable' within the health and social care sectors differ dramatically, despite an often fine line between NHS Continuing Care and services provided by local authorities. This can be largely attributed to historic differences in approach, honed through years of experience in these respective sectors.
