Just last month, I wrote about how local authority leaders are awaiting with interest the coming Budget and Comprehensive Spending Review, and the clarity we hope this will bring to questions on funding for health and social care. This remains the case, but in the meantime, next week the annual Local Government Association (LGA) conference takes place in Harrogate. With sessions on social care integration and funding taking centre stage, undoubtedly the future of health and social care will be front of mind for those attending the three days of the conference. The LGA has been clear in its position on social care funding - we need it to be put on a sustainable footing and we want there to be a bigger and longer Better Care Fund which will help councils and health partners to bring together care and health services with a separate transformation fund to kick start much-needed preventan've work. Councils have shown that they are best placed to improve services, help people and make money go further but we need to strip out the barriers in their way.
