Teens drug study urges early action

Investing in services to help teenagers cope with drug and alcohol problems could cre-ate massive long-term public sector savings, new research suggests.A study by Frontier Eco-nomics, commissioned by the Department for Educa-tion, has claimed that every ￡1 invested in dealing with substance misuse could save the taxpayer between ￡5 and ￡8 over a lifetime. The report estimated that ￡62.2m was spent on deal-ing with substance misuse by the Home Office and local au-thorities during 2008/9.
