If there's one subject which unites both public and private sector, unitary and borough - it's pensions. Providing the necessary funds to look after staff when their working lives are done is an integral part of everyone's budget. But councils in Wales are now giving councillors a chance to join the Local Government Pensions Scheme - and they are rushing to vote themselves in. Of the 22 local authorities in Wales, 19 have voted in favour of joining the scheme under the Local Government Act 2000, and the Local Government Pension Scheme. Councillors have to vote about whether the scheme should be made applicable in their own authority.
