摘要

A senior sector figure has torn open fresh wounds, accusing councils of stretching the truth as they lobby for an 'unfair share' of funding. The intervention from the National Audit Office's leader for local services, Abdool Kara, comes as the Government prepares to carry out a Fair Funding Review that is predicted to pit local authorities against each other and threatens to uncover bitter splits within the sector. Writing in The MJ this week, Mr Kara suggested misleading lobbying tactics by all council groups were driven by the 'underlying fear' the Fair Funding Review and business rate reforms were unlikely to fill the sector's widening funding gaps.
