Liverpool City Council's under-fire boss is unlikely to become the public face of English local authority chief executives, The MJ understands. Ged Fitzgerald, as senior vice president of the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE), was expected to take over from the organisation's president Mark Rogers, chief executive of Birmingham City Council, from October. But proposed changes to SOLACE'S governance - consultation on which has just finished - are expected to allow the president to remain in office for more than one year, paving the way for Mr Rogers to continue in his role. The changes, which are due to be voted on at the organisation's annual meeting next month, would also scrap the vice president role and ditch automatic movement between posts.
