West Sussex chief to exit as council axes role

West Sussex CC looks set to become the latest authority to ditch the chief executive role after it was announced the present top officer will leave at the end of the month. The council confirmed today that Kieran Stigant will leave the post on 31 January after three years in post and councillors will meet on 14 February to vote on removing the role. West Sussex's governance committee will discuss the temporary appointment of a chief operating officer from the current management team and the appointment of an interim transformation director on 20 January. Subject to next month's vote, the functions of the chief executive will be split between these two roles.
