Whitehall is not getting value for money from its use of consultants 'because it often lacks the information, skills and strategies to manage them effectively,' the public spending watchdog has warned.Despite reporting a decrease in the amount of money spent by government on external consultants since 2006/07, the National Audit Office last week attacked Whitehall's £1bn bill for consultants and interim managers in 2009/10 as representing poor value.
