The Government has been urged to show more leadership to help raise the standard of bus services in the UK and encourage collaboration between operators and local authorities. A new report by the Commons transport committee has declared too many of the five billion bus journeys made every year are leaving passengers dissatisfied over costs and reliability. Ministers were criticised for penalising authorities that want to adopt Transport for London-style franchising of bus services.
