Whitehall defends cash for SEND kids' councils

Whitehall has defended cash allocations to councils with rising numbers of challenging children amid claims it bailed out a Conservative flagship ahead of a tight local election vote in May. The Department for Education (DfE) has rejected claims made by headteachers in Hull that local schools are finding it 'virtually impossible' to deal with the growth in numbers of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
