Coronation Street is doing untold damage to Salford's reputation in the rest of the country, according to the head of the city's university. The fictional town of Weatherfield, where the popular drama is played out, has long been acknowledged to have been based on a district in Sal-ford from when it first appeared on our screens. But Salford University vice-chancellor, Professor Michael Harloe, believes the world's longest running TV soap perpetuates a myth that the city is made up of back-to-back terraces locked in the 19303 when the opposite is the case. This autumn, Salford City Council will 're-brand' itself with a major campaign to show off what has already been achieved in Salford and what else can be expected from the city's rolling regeneration programme.
