Safer Streets Ahead. A Community Handbook to Prevent Impaired Driving

Nationally, we have become much more aware of the serious problem of alcohol- andother drug-impaired driving during the last ten years. The last decade has been one of change, in part because groups of citizens throughout the country have united to fight impaired driving in their communities. As a result, we can see a glimmer of hope for safer streets ahead. This manual was developed to encourage the development and growth of the additional community action groups that are desperately needed now, and will serve one of three purposes, depending on the needs of the reader. The second way this manual may be used is to strengthen an existing group that focuses on impaired driving, and to provide new ideas for membership growth, successful preventive activities, fundraising, and evaluation of efforts. A third way that this manual may be used is to help members of an existing civic, social, or religious group introduce the issue of impaired driving into the group's activity agenda for the first time.
