One of the most exciting events in the local government calendar took place last week with the gala night of The MJ Local Government Achievement Awards, held at London's prestigious Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.Before an audience of almost 800 people, 84 finalists in 14 different categories came to hear whether they had become winners or highly commended in the sought-after awards, now in their seventh year. They were joined by leading figures from national associations, Whitehall, parliament, and the private and voluntary sectors.Despite the gloomy Budget, two days previously, the audience was determined to enjoy itself and share in the triumph of the finalists and winners.
