The 16th Extractive Industry Geology (EIG) conference took place at the University of Portsmouth from 8 to 11 September and surpassed expectations in terms of its popularity and success at a time of almost unprecedented economic decline. Since its inception in 1978, this biennial event has shared knowledge, research, innovation and best practice in applied geology across the national non-petroleum extractive industries. Consequently, recent EIG conferences have attracted other minerals extraction professionals such as planners, operations managers, engineers and health and safety advisers.
