School raids: 'let the professionals decide'

More heed should be paid to professionals on the ground, a council chief has claimed as the Government announced a series of 'dawn raids' on schools. Surrey CC chief executive David McNulty - a former director of education at Walsall MBC -said: 'I'm confident our schools are more than capable of handling inspections, whether planned or unannounced, given around 80% of our schools are currently rated "outstanding" or "good".' But he added: 'Ofsted should listen to the education professionals as they are best placed to know what will work but from a local government perspective.' In Surrey, he said the main pressure was growing school populations, rather than extremism.
