Attempts by ministers to centrally apply lessons learned in the aftermath of the Rotherham child sexual abuse scandal should be resisted, a senior MP has warned. The caution comes as the political fallout from last week's revelations of child sexual exploitation at Rotherham looks set to hit councils across England. On Tuesday, home secretary Theresa May told the House of Commons that communities secretary Eric Pickles shared her concerns over the failings by Rotherham MBC identified in Professor Alexis Jay's independent inquiry -which reported at least 1,400 young children were subject to horrific abuse in Rotherham from 1997 to 2013. 'This includes the inadequate scrutiny by councillors, institutionalised political correctness, the covering up of information and the failure to take action against gross misconduct,' Ms May said.
