Church leaders and trade union bosses have demanded an end to the Scottish Government's freeze on council tax. Members of GMB Scotland protested outside Holyrood as the Scottish Parliament debated the budget. The trade union claimed the 32 councils in Scotland would be £484m better off if council tax had kept up with inflation since 2007, when the freeze was introduced. A senior figure in the Free Church of Scotland, Rev David Robertson, called on the Scottish Government to end the freeze. "The Scottish Government has funded the council tax freeze to the tune of almost £500m since 2008 to ensure local authorities are able to continue to provide the services they are responsible for,' said a Holyrood spokesman.
