Local authorities told to 'grow up'

The Welsh public services minister has told councils to 'grow up' as they deliver their verdict on his plans for local government reform. Speaking in front of the Welsh Assembly's communities, equality and local government committee, Leighton Andrews, said he was confident councils 'can bare the initial costs of mergers'. Mr Andrews continued: 'The reality is everybody can agree on local government reorganisation, but nobody is prepared to agree on what it should look like. That is not a sustainable position. People need to grow up, bluntly.'
