摘要

Before I talk about the refusal of the POST Board to take a stand in reference to part-time licenses, I first need to say that they and the law enforcement community as a whole have my condolences with the unexpected passing of POST Board member Scott Haar. Scott had a long history with both law enforcement and higher education and was truly an ally to us all. In fact, this part-time license issue is a great example of how his thoughtful input and willingness to put the citizens of our state first showed him to be a leader. To highlight this I must first explain what has happened recently in reference to this issue.rnOn July 31st the full POST Board convened for a regular meeting and the big topic on the agenda was a discussion about the future part-time licenses. As you have read in an earlier column of mine, this has been an ongoing contentious issue. The POST Board has called for numerous meetings of the interested organizations, and has sent the question of what should be done with these licenses to their Standards Committee on multiple occasions. It has also been discussed by the full Board numerous times but action has never been taken.
