All hail to the Queen of Cheese

In a tradition that has been followed since 1959, the Dairy Council held its annual Ceremony of the Christmas Cheeses at the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, on 7 December. Every year, British cheesemakers from across the country donate cheese to the Chelsea Pensioners. This year Dr Judith Bryans, Director of the Dairy Council, became the first woman to present the cheeses in 51 years of the event. In her speech, Dr Bryans cited James Mclntyre's poem 'Ode on the mammoth cheese weighing over 7000lbs', which extolls the virtues of the 'Queen of Cheese'.
