MT's Counter Terror Section looks at how Military and security forces are receiving a new generation of unmanned platforms to support counter terror (CT) missions in the urban environment. The latest UAS and UGVs are being fielded with enhanced onboard capabilities, and more and increasingly capable payloads. These unmanned platforms permit units to seamlessly pivot from an anti-terror role, where identify, track and report are key mission parameters, to a more assertive and, when necessary, lethal CT readiness level. Whether airborne or ground-based, UAS and UGVs are removing operators from an operational cycle, and permitting on-scene and incident commanders to place these platforms at the point of need.
