Primitive Night Vision (NV) devices were first used in World War II but came into regular use during the Vietnam War, well-suited for patrols at nights in the jungle's deep darkness. Nowadays, NV has evolved significantly in recent years. Since their introduction, there have been a few different ways to classify the strength and clarity of image. These became known as ..generations" of night vision equipment with performance increasing (see main article).
