Baltic Air Policing: EUROFIGHTER to the Fore

In May 2014, NATO increased the number of fighter aircraft conducting Baltic Air Policing (BAP) missions due to heightened tensions between the transatlantic alliance and Russia. Since March 2004, when Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania joined NATO, the air policing task has been ongoing as these states lack the financial means to sustain combat aircraft forces needed to patrol Baltic airspace.
