Ottoman Military Technology and Armaments Policy (1870-1918)

摘要

This research report aims to illustrate the methodology of the research question where the author strives to analyze the progress of the military technological improvements in Ottoman Empire as part of the process on technology transfer from the West. Concerning that the arms and ammunition production of Ottomans in the age of industrialization is still an unexplored field for the historians, the fundamental sources of this dissertation are the archival documents and the 19~(th) century Ottoman and Prussian manuscripts gathered chiefly from various archives and libraries. Having possessed the richest and most valuable collection of Ottoman manuscripts, the Ottoman State Archive is a unique place to determine and understand the modern war industry significantly in the Industrial Park of Istanbul'. Furthermore, the German archives most especially Historisches Archiv Krupp in Essen is rich in material regarding the transfer of weapons and the scrutiny of German observers charged as military supervisors in Asia Minor.
