The commander in chief of the armed forces controls all four components of the armed services - the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Air Defense Command - and is responsible for organization, training, armaments, and combat readiness. In the past, final decisions on defense matters were made by the country's president, and the armed services and the defense industry came directly under the administrative command of the minister of defense and military production. Egypt often deploys peacekeepers to support U.N. missions, particularly ongoing missions in Africa. Egyptian peacekeepers are deployed in the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Liberia, Mali, South Sudan, Sudan, and Western Sahara.
