Since the end of the Cold War in 1991, the overall size of the Norwegian armed forces has been steadily downsized under multiple governments. This is especially true of the Norwegian Army, which once boasted 13 reserve brigades (one standing, 12 capable of mobilization) to eliminate any direct land threat to its territory. The last mobilization brigade was disbanded in 2007.
