The Chilean military is a part of the executive branch of government. It is led by a civilian Minister of National Defense. The National Defense Ministry is a Cabinet-level administrative position. Under the minister is an undersecretary of defense, in charge of defense policy, and an undersecretary of the armed forces, in charge of administrative duties. Chile also has a Joint Staff Command of military leaders that serve as the coordinating body responsible for unified strategic planning, joint training, and doctrinal development.
