Forecast International projects that manufacturers will produce a total of 495 new-build special mission military aircraft from 2021 through 2030. The value of this production is projected to total almost $91.3 billion. These totals exclude the market for conversions of existing airframes to special mission roles.The United States military is the single largest customer for new-build special mission aircraft. It will account for about 69 percent of the value of production during the next decade, far outstripping the rest of the world.The Pentagon is currently spending money on a number of programs, including the Boeing KC-46A tanker/transport, special mission variants of the Lockheed Martin C-130J, the Northrop Grumman E-2D airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft, the Northrop Grumman B-21 stealth bomber, and the Boeing P-8A maritime patrol aircraft.
