Manufacturers of special mission aircraft will see declining demand over the next 10 years. These aircraft improve the efficiency of combat air assets and intelligence collection, but the advanced capabilities come at a steep cost.Few countries can afford to buy new special mission aircraft, limiting the potential size of the market. Further, most new special mission aircraft will be capable of flying for decades provided they are maintained with periodic upgrades. That means that replacement cycles are measured in decades, far longer than our forecast period of 10 years. Aircraft built today are not likely to be replaced until 2048 or later, and in some cases long after that.
