Tjarda de Haan: Web Archaeologist and Digital Heritage Expert

Tjarda de Haan is the owner of Bits & Bytes United. For the past eight years she has worked with the Amsterdam Museum as a guest e-curator and web archaeologist to preserve their digital content. One project has been "The Digital City Revives," the preservation of De Digitale Stad (DDS). DDS, launched in Amsterdam in 1994, was the first digital city. The initiative to preserve this city has been carried out by a team consisting de Haan, the Amsterdam Museum, the University of Amsterdam, the Dutch Institute for Sound and Vision, and the Waag Society. The goal of the project is to preserve as much of the DDS as is possible so that people can experience early social networking.
