A shear band formation model during the cold rolling of Fe-3 Pct Si alloy is advanced. The model assumes a two-stage mechanism based on abnormal twinning according to the {114}〈221〉 system and secondary twinning in two standard {112}〈111〉 systems. As a result, the transformed shear band consists of nearly Goss orientated {11 11 1}〈1 1 22〉 and {111}〈112〉 being symmetrical to initially {111}〈112〉 orientated areas. This model provides an explanation for available experimental data.
