SIVO SOL Technology: Safe and Environmentally Friendly Metal Surface Protection

With the development of a modular sol-gel concept based on silane chemistry, Evonik scientists have ushered in a new era in metal pretreatment. The concept comprises a completely new technology for equipping metal surfaces with reliable and environmentally friendly corrosion protection, and it opens up a host of new applications for inorganic sol-gel coatings. Protecting a metal against corrosion is a given. Whether in automotive or in building construction, by the time the metal has been attacked, and the corrosion has reached a certain stage, it is too late to do anything. (The term "corrode" comes from the Latin word corrodere, which means something like "to gnaw to pieces.") In the corrosion process, corrosive media gnaw not only at the surface of materials but also at property values.
