Alliant Energy is a public utility holding company. Through its subsidiaries, Co. principally generates and distributes electricity and distributes and transports natural gas to retail customers in select markets in Iowa and Wisconsin, and sells electricity to wholesale customers in Wisconsin. At Dec 31 2016, Co. supplied electric and natural gas service to approximately 960,000 electric and approximately 410,000 natural gas customers in the Midwest. Co.'s non-utility operations consist of its non-regulated generation, transportation, and other non-regulated investments including an interest in American Transmission Company LLC, a transmission-only utility operating in the Midwest.
