SCR Retrofit Training at Alliant Energy Edgewater Generating Station

Alliant Energy Corporation is an investor-owned utility in the Midwest, providing service to approximately 1 million electric customers and 414,000 gas customers in more than 1,300 communities throughout Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Included in Alliant Energy’s Strategic Plan is a significant investment in emission control technology for its newest and largest generating units. Examples of this investment were the upgrade of two induced draft fans, additional compressed air system equipment, a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) System, and all the auxiliary equipment associated with the SCR installation project at the Edgewater Generating Station (EGS), Unit 5, in Sheboygan, WI. The installation of the SCR at Edgewater Unit 5 began in the fall of 2010 and was placed in service in late 2012. The $145 million project is expected to reduce NOX emissions by 75% from existing levels.
