Les β-2-stimulants à longue durée d'action sont largement prescrits dans le traitement de l'asthme. Après plus de dix années d'études cliniques, ils ont confirmé leur utilité en améliorant les fonctions pulmonaires et en permettant un meilleur contrôle des symptômes des patients asthmatiques. Le phénomène de tolérance observé en laboratoire n'a pas été démontré cliniquement. Les β-2-stimulants à longue durée d'action ne sont pas des antiinflammatoires et représentent un traitement complémentaire aux corticostéroïdes. Ils ne doivent être prescrits qu'aux patients qui demeurent symptomatiques sous un traitement optimal de corticostéroïdes inhalés et qui font l'objet d'un suivi médical régulier.%Long-acting β-2-agonists are widely prescribed in asthma. After more than 10 years of clinical studies, long-acting β-2- agonists have confirmed their usefulness by improving lung functions and by achieving a better control of symptoms in asthmatics patients. Tachyphylaxis observed in laboratory has not been proven clinically. Long-acting β-2-agonists are not anti- inflammatory drugs and represent an adjuvant treatment to corticosteroids. They should only be prescribed for patients who remain symptomatic under optimal inhaled lorticosteroid treatment and remain in dose follow up.
