Damen launches second frigate for the Royal Moroccon Nauy

In early February, the impressive launch of the second multi-mission frigate under construction for the Royal Moroccan Navy took place at Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding in Flushing-East. Heavy lift and transport company Mammoet Europe B.V used their unique direct launch' method and rolled the 98 metre long vessel out of the land-based assembly hall to Damen's RoRo quay, where it was placed on a pontoon. During high tide, the pontoon was taken to deeper water to allow the frigate to float free. The 1700 tons weighing vessel was then towed to the Flushing-City shipyard where it will be completed. Delivery of the second frigate is planned for spring 2012. The second frigate joined the first, with 105 metres and at 2000 tons slightly larger frigate in Flushing-City for final outfitting. This first frigate was launched in July 2010 and is due to be completed to be end of 2011. Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding also has a third multi-mission frigate for the Royal Moroccan Navy under construction. This vessel, also 98 metres long, is scheduled to be launched in the same way in October 2011.
