Tow-line tension. The tow line connects masses P^sub α^ and P^sub n+1^ where α = n for towing in a following sea and α = 1 for towing in a head sea. The tow-line tension on each body is equivalent to a force-couple system at the center of mass of each body. Since we are neglecting local rotations relative to the wave surface, the couples are resisted by opposing couples from the wave surface. We therefore consider only the effect of the tow-line tension at the centers of mass of the bodies.
