STX'S BLUE PRINT FOR A SMALLER FOOT PRINT

For Europe's largest shipbuilding group, STX Europe, the path to the future is paved green. STX recently unveiled its strategic environmental plan called Ecorizon, which it says will function "as an umbrella for our way of thinking green in ship design and manufacturing, and our approach to further concrete actions." What's significant about this is the shipbbuilding group's global reach and the influence it will have on its suppliers. STX Europe, part of the STX Business Group, has shipyards in Europe (Finland, France, Norway and Romania), South America (Brazil) and Southeast Asia (Vietnam), with minority stakes in three shipyards in Germany and the Ukraine. Overall, STX Europe has some 16,000 employees and had a new construction backlog of NOK 47.8 billion at the end of 2008.
