Coast Guard's Fms Program Picks Up Steam

The U.S. Coast Guard's Foreign Military Sates Program is gaining steam, with annual sales increasing from $10 million to $50 million over the last three years, according to the U.S. Coast Guard's Office of Interna--tional Acquisition. Last month, the USCG's FMS program marked the delivery of its 200th vessel since 1997. The vessels, which included 116 excess boats and cutters, as well as 84 new-procurement boats, were transferred to 37 nations around the world. Another 89 vessels, currently under construction and pending delivery from U.S. shipyards, have been sold through FMS. Through the past three years active foreign military sales projects have more than doubled to $100 million and annual new sales have increased from $10 million to more than $50 million. A variety of excess vessels and new procurement boats have been delivered, ranging in size from 25 ft, Defender Class response boats to 210 ft, Reliance Class cutters. The vessels have been delivered or ordered by countries spanning from Albania to Kenya to Yemen.
