Bubbles could be used to clean cargo tanks

Bubble technology has plenty of potential to enhance tanker design and operation. Not only is there the prospect of reducing hull friction through the use of bubbles, but bubbles also improve surface cleaning. A team of researchers at the University of Southampton is exploring the cleaning properties of bubbles in water. The team has demonstrated how the combination of cool water, bubbles and ultrasonics can remove tough stains, grim and chemicals from pitted surfaces.
