From the biggest changes to the Nutrition Facts panel's format since its creation to the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act, 2016 was a year of great change for food policy. Now in 2017, as a new administration takes the helm, there is a political climate focused on deregulation. In response, we anticipate an increase in state activity, particularly in the labeling and tax arenas. Additionally, trade issues will be a major focus of this administration. Meanwhile, the implementation of several major federal labeling and food safety initiatives is still underway.
