Finding fewer and fewer competent workers, manufacturers can control their own destiny and close the skills gap by developing training programs that leverage newer learning technologies. At first glance, the numbers and trends defy common sense. The manufacturing industry, as a whole, has reduced its workforce in the United States by an estimated three million workers since 1998. Yet ― assuming that at least a portion of the three million workers are still looking for employment ― manufacturers claim they can't find qualified workers. Where have all the workers gone?
