English Education Department of Teacher Training and Education Faculty ofudSebelas Maret University. Surakarta. December 2014.udThe objectives of this study is to find out the correlation between (1) creativityudand writing skill; (2) cohesive devices mastery and writing skill; and 3) creativity andudcohesive devices mastery simultaneously and writing skill.udThis study used correlational method with quantitative approach. The populationudwas all of the first semester students of English Education of Teacher Training andudEducation Faculty of Sebelas Maret University 2014/2015. The sample of this studyudwas one class consisting 28 students. The sample was taken by using cluster randomudsampling. In collecting data, the writer used tests: cohesive devices mastery test,udcreativity test, and writing test. The techniques which were used for analyzing the dataudwere Simple and Multiple Linear Regression and Correlation.udThe results of analyzing data show that (1) there is a positive correlationudbetween creativity and writing skill (= 0.80179); (2) there is a positive correlationudbetween cohesive devices mastery and writing skill (=0.856); and (3) there is audpositive correlation between creativity and cohesive devices mastery simultaneouslyudand writing skill (R= 0.88201).udThe findings imply that creativity and cohesive device mastery haveudcontribution to students’ writing skill. Creativity and cohesive devices mastery areudaspects that support writing skill. Students having higher creativity or cohesive devicesudmastery have better writing skill than those having lower.
