In How the Economy Works, Professor Roger E. A. Farmer presents to a general audience his attempt to provide a new synthesis of classical and Keynesian economics and the resultant monetary policy prescriptions for improving the stability of the economy. The book builds on a still-growing series of research papers by Professor Farmer, as well as a more technical book (entitled Expectations, Employment, and Prices) with similar themes, aimed at a more academic audience. Some readers of this journal may be familiar with the key ideas from Professor Farmer's presentations to audiences of economists, most recently in a keynote address at the 17th International Conference on Computing in Economics and Finance. This book, like some of these other materials, makes clear Professor Farmer's enthusiasm for his ideas.
