Petronas fast-tracks offshore LNG

Although Shell's Prelude floating LNG production vessel was the first to be contracted, in May 2011, Petronas could well have two FLNG projects underway in Malaysian waters before Prelude processes its first gas. The Malaysian state oil and gas firm gave the approval for the country's first floating LNG production project, to be known as Petronas floating LNG 1 (PFLNG1), in June 2012 and immediately awarded the scheme's US$2 billion engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning (EPCIC) contract to Technip and Daewoo Shipbuilding &. Marine Engineering (DSME). Malaysia is planning on a late 2015 start for this project.
