Today's LNG industry is sending out a mixed message. While demand for the cleaner-burning resource it supplies continues to rise, the demand and delivery of LNG vessels is quite cyclical in nature and 2014 marked the start of some overcapacity in LNG shipping. But with the backdrop of an evolving and volatile LNG market, technical innovations continue to emerge and will enable future vessels to be more cost effective. GE Marine's proven Combined Gas turbine, Electric and Steam (COGES) technology can help power the LNG industry, improving operations and lowering expenses for owners and operators. Recently Hyundai Heavy Industries and GE Marine jointly developed a COGES-powered LNG carrier design, receiving approval in principle from Lloyd's Register this summer.
