First stage of Luxembourg's new tramway opens

Sunday 10 December saw the opening of the first stage of the new tramline in the city of Luxembourg, capital of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. At 11.00 Grand Duke Henri and Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Mars di Bartolomeo and Minister for Sustainable Development Francois Bausch gathered on the plateau of Kirchberg, north-east of the city centre. Under a covering of snow, they inaugurated the new railway station Howald, the new passenger funicular linking to the new tramway, a new bicycle lane on Avenue J. F. Kennedy (parallel with the tramway), and the transport interchanges Europe and Luxexpo.
