In a passive Q-switch for pulsed lasers with intensity-dependent resonator losses, W-switching is effected by non-linear reflexion by stimulated Brillouin scattering and/or stimulated thermal Brillouin scattering with an absorption coefficient alpha equal to or greater than 0.05/cm and the length of travel of the Q-switch can be adjusted by linear losses of the laser resonator.
