Paris to order up to 183 Alstom metro trains

The Societe du Grand Paris and Ile-de-France Mobilites have selected Alstom to supply up to 183 new automated steel-wheel 110km/h (68mph) metro trains for Grand Paris Express lines 15, 16 and 17 in a contract worth up to EUR1.3bn. A first tranche of EUR280m for 53 trains has been agreed: 25 six-car trains for line 15 (with options for up to 133 trains) and 28 three-car trains for lines 16 and 17 (with options for a further 33 trains). The 2.8m-wide cars will feature advanced CCTV, air-conditioning, USB chargers and a new standard of onboard information, and operate at 1500V dc from the overhead. The chosen Metropolis platform design will have walk-through gangways and the contract also allows for additional infrastructure to monitor trains.
